honkping is a public message board for vehicle licence plates. This page explains exactly what we collect, what we don't, and how to get rid of anything you've left here.
What we collect
- Plate pageviews. We track plate-page visits via Sensor, a first-party analytics script. We see request paths and aggregate counts. We do not place advertising cookies.
- Messages you post. The message body, the country and plate it is attached to, the timestamp, and the IP address + user agent of the submission (kept for 30 days for moderation and abuse defence).
- Email addresses (owners only). If you claim a plate as the owner, we keep the email you verified the claim with. We never display it publicly.
- Server logs. Standard nginx + Django logs: IP, request path, user agent, response code. Rotated weekly. Used only for diagnosing outages and abuse.
What we don't collect
- No plate-owner registry data. We do not connect to any government vehicle registration database, anywhere.
- No third-party advertising trackers. No Facebook pixel, no Google Ads, no LinkedIn Insight.
- No biometric, location, or contact-list data.
- We never sell, rent, or share user data with third parties for marketing.
Cookies
We set one functional cookie that stores your chosen UI language. We set a session cookie if you log in as a plate owner. That's it.
Retention
- Published messages: indefinite, unless you ask us to remove them.
- Rejected / hidden messages: 90 days, then deleted.
- Owner email + claim records: until you delete the claim or the account.
- Server logs: rotated weekly, archived 30 days.
Your rights
Under GDPR (EU/UK visitors) and equivalent regimes elsewhere, you have the right to access, rectify, or delete any personal data we hold about you. Most of what is on this site is not personal data — a plate number, on its own, is not personally identifiable — but if you posted a message that names you or refers to you, contact us and we will remove it.
Deletion
Email oleksiy@goncharov.org with the URL of the page and a description of what you want removed. No identification required. We respond within seven days.
